Al Atharee Association of The Gambia for Islamic Education, Dawah and Propagation – Al Atharee Fishery & Boat Building Project

This is our Main Income Generation project and is part of our drive to become Self Sufficient.

The Founders of Al Atharee Association have initiated “Al Atharee Fishery & Boat Building” with the construction of a 14 ft Pilot Pirogue, purchase of a 15 HP Yamaha Engine,  Safety & Fishing Equipment. Its prime use is to conduct pilot studies including exploration and plotting of the various offshore fishing fields and calculating seasonal variations in catch, fish processing and marketing.

Fish constitutes the main diet of the Gambian people and the wholesale market has a rapid turnover. Also the growing Tourist Industry looks for luxury marine products such as Lobster, Tiger Prawns & Shrimps. There is also an increasing foreign trade, in marine products, especially where other fishing fields have been destroyed by pollution or made dangerous by war.

It is intended that Boat Building Skills Training will be incorporated in the construction of further Pirogues, some suitable for sale to the Gambian Fishing industry as well as adapted lighter designs, suiting usage in the Eco-Tourism sector and ferrying across inland waterways.

Therefore we are asking our supporters to choose one or more listed items from the pdf attachment below and encourage their friends to collectively raise its sponsorship. Please inform of us of your choice to avoid duplication. Unspecified donations are also welcome and will be accumulated for usage within this project.

If Muslim Schools, including Home School Associations, would like to participate in this venture, on receipt of their Initial Donation & Written Pledge of Further Support we will provide educational materials for the benefit of their pupils. All participating Muslim schools will be mentioned in Al Atharee Newsletter.

Al Atharee Fishery is estimated to bring in an average income of £300 per day after deductions for: fuel cost and delivery; maintenance of Pirogues, engines & fishery equipment; boat crew & fish processor wages. Fuel consumption will be reduced by means of the 2 larger 40 ft Pirogues going to deep sea fishing fields for 5 days at a time. The smaller 20ft boats will collect daily from the larger boats to ensure fresh products. Insha’Allah within 2 years ofconstructing and establishing the 4 Pirogue Fleet and the Chandlery, Al Atharee Fishery could generate sufficient income to financially support Al Atharee Association’s main objectives.

In this respect by donating to this Income Generation project you will be contributing to:

Ø  Educating Thousands of Orphans in The Gambia [within our M.O.O.N project]
Ø  Increasing opportunities for impoverished Muslims to gain livelihood skills & employment
Ø  Spreading the beneficial knowledge of The Quran & The Sunnah of Allah’s Final Messenger

Which when done for the Pleasure of Allah alone, without unfounded procrastination or fear of loss, warrant the rewards of Saddaqa Jarriyah, which brings the following to mind:

“The likeness of those who spend their wealth in the Way of Allâh, is as the likeness of a grain of corn; it grows seven ears, and each ear has a hundred grains. Allâh gives manifold increase to whomsoever He pleases. And Allâh is All-Sufficient for His creatures’ needs, All Knower.”            [Surah Al-Baqarah 2:261]
